Application Fee

The fee must be paid online through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Bank charges are extra. The fee is not refunded. The notice does not mention any fee exemption.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 21 years as on 1 August 2026. The maximum age depends on the category.

Age is counted as per the date of birth in the Matriculation or equivalent certificate.

• Persons with Disabilities: 10 years relaxation in the maximum age.
• Government servants of Bihar: 5 years relaxation for those who have completed 3 years of continuous service.
• Ex-Servicemen: 3 years plus the period of service in defence, provided the actual age is not more than 57 years on the date of application.
• A candidate can claim only one of these relaxations.

BTSC Food Safety Officer Vacancy 2026 Details & Eligibility Criteria

Category-Wise Vacancies

• Women (35% horizontal reservation for women native to Bihar): 34 posts in total. These are UR 14, EWS 4, SC 6, ST 0, EBC 6, BC 4 and BC (Women) 0.
• Persons with Disabilities (native to Bihar): VH 2, HH 1, OH 1, MH 1.
• Descendants of freedom fighters (native to Bihar): 2 posts.

The Health Department may revise the number of vacancies during the selection process. Appointment will be made only after training as per the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Educational Qualification

A candidate must have one of the following from a recognised university or institution:

1. A Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree in Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Bio-Technology, Oil Technology, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science, Bio-Chemistry, Micro-Biology, Chemistry or Medicine.
2. A Bachelor's or Post-Graduate degree in subjects such as Food Engineering, Food Processing and Preservation, Food Technology and Management, Food Bio-Technology, Food Safety and Quality Management, Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology, Fisheries, Food Nutrition and Dietetics or Horticulture. The notice lists the full subject names.
3. A degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Dental Surgery, or Homeopathic, Unani, Siddha, Ayurvedic or Sowa Rigpa Medicine and Surgery.
4. Any other course or qualification notified by FSSAI, New Delhi, with the approval of the Central Government.

Selection Process

1. Written Competitive Examination (Computer Based Test) of 100 marks.
2. Document Verification, for which candidates must bring the original documents.

Exam pattern:

• 100 multiple-choice questions, 100 marks, duration 2 hours.
• Questions will be in Hindi and English.
• Each right answer carries 1 mark. 0.25 mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
• If the exam is held in more than one shift, results will be prepared using normalisation.
• The syllabus will be published separately on the BTSC website.

Minimum qualifying marks in the written exam:

Candidates living outside Bihar (including women and PwBD) must get the General category minimum of 40%.
