- The experience must be in the same trade in a reputed industrial establishment. Apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 counts towards experience.
- IREL internal candidates need SSC with 4 years' experience in the relevant trade or operation.
- Teaching and research fellowship experience is not counted.
- Courses must be full-time or regular and recognised by the Government or UGC / AICTE, as applicable.
- Knowledge of working in an automated environment and office automation tools is essential.
- Five percent of vacancies are reserved for compassionate appointments.

Selection Process
- Written Test (Computer Based Test): 2 hours, in one sitting, in Hindi and English.
- Skill Test (Trade Test / Computer Proficiency Test): qualifying in nature only.
- Document verification, medical examination and character verification.

- Each correct answer carries 1 mark. There is no negative marking.
- Minimum marks in each section: 50% for UR and EWS, and 45% for SC, ST and OBC (NCL).
- Candidates who qualify are called for the skill test in order of merit in the ratio of 1:5.
- The final merit list is prepared on the CBT marks only, for each unit, trade and category separately. A candidate must also pass the skill test.
- A wait-list will be kept for one year.
Exam centres (tentative): Mumbai, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Trivandrum, Kochi, Bhopal, Indore, Chennai, Nagercoil, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. Candidates can choose two centres in order of preference.

The approximate CTC after absorption is ?6.5 lakh per annum. Selected candidates may be absorbed in the W-3 grade on successful completion of the one-year training.

- Log in again and fill in the personal, additional, communication and qualification details.
- Upload your photograph, signature and certificates, then preview and submit the form.
- Pay the fee online through the payment gateway.
- Print the application form and keep it. You need not send any printout to IREL.
The form cannot be edited after submission, and the category and post cannot be changed. If you submit more than one application for the same post, the last one is final.
- Photograph: recent passport size, white background, JPG / JPEG, 100 KB to 200 KB, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, not older than 3 months.
- Signature: signed in black ink on white paper, JPG / JPEG, 80 KB to 150 KB.
