Karnataka Prisons Recruitment Exam Pattern 2026

The competitive examination will be conducted in Offline OMR mode.

For Warder, Instructor Grade-II and Warder Cum Nursing posts, the paper contains 100 objective questions for 100 marks with a duration of 90 minutes.

The syllabus includes:

• General Knowledge
• General Science
• Geography
• History
• Indian Constitution
• National Freedom Movement
• Mental Ability

For Jailor posts, the competitive examination is also for 100 marks and 90 minutes, with questions at degree level.

Negative Marking

There is a 0.25-mark penalty for every wrong answer. The OMR sheet also contains a fifth option for questions that candidates do not wish to answer. 

Karnataka Prisons Recruitment Selection Process

The selection process includes the following stages:

1. Competitive Written Examination
2. Merit/Shortlisting
3. Physical Standard Test (PST)
4. Endurance Test (ET)
5. Mandatory Kannada Language Test, wherever applicable
6. Document Verification

Candidates are shortlisted for the physical tests based on the combined percentage of marks obtained in the competitive examination and qualifying examination, generally in a 1:5 ratio.

Physical Standard Test

The notification specifies:

• Men: Minimum height – 168 cm
• Women and Third Gender candidates: Minimum height – 157 cm
• Women and Third Gender candidates: Minimum weight – 46 kg
• Applicable chest requirements are prescribed for male/ex-servicemen candidates.

The PST and Endurance Test are qualifying in nature. 

Endurance Test

The endurance test includes running and field events. The notification specifies different standards for male candidates and women/third-gender candidates, including events such as running, high jump, long jump, and shot put.

Candidates must qualify in the prescribed endurance events. The notification states that the endurance test does not carry marks and is restricted to qualification. 

Karnataka Prisons Recruitment Salary 2026

The salary depends on the post.

• Jailor: Rs 61,300 – Rs 1,12,900
• Warder: Rs 37,500 – Rs 76,100
• Instructor Grade-II: Rs 37,500 – Rs 76,100
• Warder Cum Nursing: Rs 34,100 – Rs 67,600

The notification also states that selected candidates undergo nine months of basic foundation training at designated training schools. Candidates selected through direct recruitment remain on probation for two years.
