Candidates must be eligible under Schedule I of the Apprentices Rules, 1992, and may apply for more than one designated trade in the same application, but the exam centres for different trades may differ. Candidates currently doing an apprenticeship elsewhere must terminate it before applying. PwBD candidates must hold a disability certificate of 40% or above issued before applying online. Physical standards: minimum height 137 cm, weight 25.4 kg, and chest expansion 3.8 cm. Candidates must be free from tuberculosis, infectious diseases and any chronic illness, and have no morbidity of the eyes or eyelids.

Shortlisting: if applications are too many, candidates are shortlisted in the ratio of 1:25 per vacancy for each trade and category. The marks are calculated with equal weightage (50:50) to Class 10 marks and the ITI marks from the consolidated NCVET statement. The exceptions are Crane Operator (100% weightage of Class 10) and Rigger (100% weightage of Class 8).

The exam has 100 objective questions of 1 mark each, to be solved in 2 hours, in English and Hindi. The questions follow the Class 10 syllabus (Class 8 for Rigger). The exam will be held in a single shift on one day, in Mumbai and suburban districts such as Thane and Kandivali.
Final merit: the merit list is made on the written exam marks. In case of a tie, the older candidate is placed higher, and then the alphabetical order of the first name is used. Selected candidates must submit a medical fitness certificate before joining.
Stipend and Training
Apprentices are paid a monthly stipend as per MSDE guidelines, which is ?9,600 for most trades, ?8,200 for Crane Operator and ?6,800 for Rigger. Limited hostel facility is available for boys only, based on merit and with preference to outstation candidates. There is no hostel facility for female candidates at present. Apprentices get free medical treatment at the Naval Dockyard Dispensary during training.
The apprenticeship is not a regular job, and there is no obligation on the Naval Dockyard to offer employment after training. However, successful ex-apprentices become eligible to apply for the post of Tradesman Skilled in Naval Dockyards, as per the recruitment rules.

- Upload a passport-size colour photograph (50 to 100 KB, not more than 3 months old, white background, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm) and your signature in black ink (50 to 100 KB).
- Upload the PDF copies (up to 400 KB each) of your birth certificate or matriculation certificate, Aadhaar, ITI marks and caste, disability or Ex-Servicemen certificates if applicable. Rigger candidates must upload the Class 8 marksheet.
- Submit the form and take a printout for your record. The e-admit card must later be downloaded from the same portal.
Do not send any hard copy of the application or documents to the Naval Dockyard. Do not submit multiple applications, and if you do, the one with the higher application number is considered. The email ID and mobile number cannot be changed after you enter them.
