For DEO/DEO Grade A posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC, and Ministry of Culture, candidates must have passed Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics. For LDC/JSA and other DEO posts, 12th pass or equivalent is required.
Candidates appearing for their Class 12 examination can also apply, but they must possess the required qualification by 7 October 2026.
SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Process
The SSC CHSL 2026 examination will be conducted in two tiers: Tier-I and Tier-II.

The examination duration is 60 minutes, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each subject. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.
Tier-II
Tier-II consists of four sections:
- Mathematical Abilities & Reasoning and General Intelligence
- English Language & Comprehension and General Awareness
- Computer Knowledge Test
- Skill Test/Typing Test
Sections I and II contribute to the merit score, while Sections III and IV are qualifying in nature. The Computer Knowledge Test is mandatory, and the Skill/Typing Test is also qualifying.
For final selection, merit is prepared based on the aggregate marks of Section I and Section II of Tier-II, subject to qualifying Sections III and IV. Post preference also plays an important role and once submitted, the preference is treated as final.
SSC CHSL 2026 Typing & Skill Test
For LDC/JSA, candidates can choose Hindi or English as the typing-test medium.
- English: 35 words per minute
- Hindi: 30 words per minute
- Test duration: 10 minutes
- Eligible scribe candidates receive compensatory time.
For DEO posts, the required data-entry speed varies by post. Certain specified DEO/DEO Grade A posts require 15,000 key depressions per hour, while other DEO posts require 8,000 key depressions per hour.
