The examination is conducted through Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) in two stages — Paper-I and Paper-II. Candidates can appear for the engineering subject according to the stream/post selected in their application form.

SSC JE 2026 Selection Process
The selection process consists of the following stages:
- Paper-I – Computer-Based Examination
- Paper-II – Computer-Based Examination
- Document Verification
- Medical Examination
Paper-I is used to shortlist candidates for Paper-II, while normalized marks obtained in Paper-II are used for determining final merit.
Separate merit lists are prepared for the relevant posts/streams as specified in the official notification.

The SSC JE examination is conducted in two papers:

Both papers consist of objective-type, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The questions are set in Hindi and English, as applicable.

SSC JE 2026 Important Exam Pattern Details
On-Screen Calculator and Codes
Where required during the examination, relevant codes such as IS 456:2000 Code of Practice and the Steam Table will be made available on the computer screen.
A Scientific Calculator will also be available on the candidate's screen. Candidates are not permitted to carry physical versions of these items into the examination lab.
Normalization of Marks
If the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, SSC will use the prescribed normalization procedure to determine normalized scores.
These normalized scores are used for shortlisting and merit preparation as applicable.
Level of Engineering Questions
The engineering questions for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering are set at approximately the Diploma in Engineering level.
For Computer Science & IT, Electronics & Telecommunication, Physics and Telecommunication, the questions are set at approximately the graduation level, as stated in the provided examination details.
