Overview

The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has released Notification No. 06-PSC(DR-P) of 2026, dated 31 July 2026, inviting online applications for 70 backlog vacancies of Assistant Professor across 24 disciplines in Government Colleges under the Higher Education Department (HED), Jammu & Kashmir.

Only domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir possessing the prescribed academic/professional qualifications and meeting the required age criteria are eligible to apply. The online application process will be available on the official JKPSC website from 01 August 2026 to 31 August 2026, including fee payment and document upload. Age will be reckoned as on 01 January 2026. Selection will be conducted as per Rule 45 of the JKPSC (Business & Procedure) Rules, 2021, through a written examination followed by the Commission's prescribed selection process.   • Option A: A Master's Degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Differently Abled/PhD degree holders who obtained their Master's Degree prior to 19 September 1991), or an equivalent grade on a point scale, in the concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. Candidates must also have cleared NET conducted by UGC/CSIR, or an equivalent test accredited by UGC such as SLET/SET, OR hold a PhD degree awarded in accordance with UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of M.Phil/PhD Degree) Regulations 2009 or 2016 (subject to specified conditions such as evaluation by two external examiners, an open PhD viva voce, and publication/presentation of research papers). NET/SLET/SET is not required for disciplines in which it is not conducted by UGC/CSIR or similar accredited bodies.
  • Option B: A PhD Degree obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in the world by QS World University Rankings, The Times Higher Education (THE), or the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
